| Wrenn - One Month Old |
Our little Wrenn turned one month old on Tuesday, March 19. She's been such a wonderful addition to our already wild family. We've been telling her all along that she's supposed to be our "good" one. We've already got a sassy one and a feisty one.
The month started out a little stressful because Ainsley and Durham had Fifth's Disease. They had fevers and rashes and had to be kept away from Wrenn as much as possible. This was difficult because all Ainsley wanted was to touch and help Wrenn with everything. She was quite heartbroken to have to stay away from the baby for the first two weeks.
It also meant that Wrenn's newborn pictures wouldn't include any of her siblings. Mama was super disappointed but tried to remember that the pictures would be much less stressful with just Wrenn as opposed to the whole brood.
Wrenn's first night home was pretty uneventful. Grammy stayed at the house with us. Grammy watched Wrenn for the first three hours of our night shift so Mama could get some sleep. Wrenn ended up sleeping for a four and five hour stretch. Grammy and Mama were super proud!
Mama and Daddy took Wrenn to the pediatrician the following day. Our doctor was less than thrilled about Wrenn's ability to sleep. She wanted us to wake Wrenn up every three hours to eat to prevent jaundice. Wrenn didn't have bilirubin problems, but the pediatrician wanted to be cautious.
Mama spent one night setting the alarm to feed Wrenn every three hours. After that, she let the baby sleep. Pediatrician advice can only be taken so far.
Wrenn came home from the hospital eating 2 oz. bottles every three hours, but ended the month eating 4 oz. bottles every three hours. Wrenn and Mama slept either together on the Lazy Boy chair in Wrenn's room, next to each other with Mama in the chair and Wrenn in her bouncer seat, or with Mama in her own bed (!!) and Wrenn in her crib.
At first, Mama didn't even try to get Wrenn to sleep in her crib. Wrenn was spitting up quite a bit, so Mama wanted to be able to pick her up and help her. Also because of the c-section, it was difficult for Mama to get up quickly to get to the crib to help her. Having Wrenn within an arm's reach was our solution.
After two weeks, Mama began trying to get Wrenn to sleep in the crib. She always starts out in the crib, but eventually ends up in Mama's arms or in the bouncy seat next to Mama's chair. There have been about 6 nights so far where Wrenn slept the whole night in the crib (minus getting up to eat). Wrenn always sleeps in a swaddler and never had her days/nights confused.
By the end of the month, Wrenn had begun sleeping for four and five hour stretches periodically. Most nights include one longer stretch.
Big sister Ainsley loves to hold Wrenn and is especially fond of "babysitting" while Mama takes a shower. Durham has mostly ignored her in favor of playing with cars or watching Cars the Movie.
Wrenn started out the month in newborn clothing and diapers. She ended up the month in 0-3 month clothing and size one diapers.
In this month she was visited by quite a few friends and family. Her outings included trips to each grandparent's homes and to Ainsley's school to pick her up. We also took quite a few car trips. (These were mostly for Durham's amusement. He likes to go over the covered bridge!)
